Solomon I. Yazmer of West Hartford died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years Sylvia (Kotovsky) Yazmer. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Samuel and Sadie Yazmer. Sol was a loving and devoted husband, father, papa, uncle, and friend. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was an insurance agent for The Prudential, a member of The Hartford Mutual Society and The West Hartford Regents. Sol enjoyed life and will be remembered for his positive attitude, sense of humor, and love of people. Making people smile brought him great joy. He also enjoyed bowling in several leagues into his 80s. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his two sons, Donald Yazmer of Farmington and Ronald Yazmer and his wife Ellen of Avon, and his daughter Rochelle Bartelstone and her husband Steven of Avon; his sister Trudy Brown and her husband Dr. Louis Brown of West Hartford, his brother Robert Yazmer and his wife Dory of Shelton; his six grandchildren Erica Beilenson and her husband Andrew, Michael Bartelstone, Dana Wiener and her husband Josh, Devin Yazmer and his wife Leah, Jessica Yazmer, and Andrew Yazmer; and his six great grandchildren Evan and Adam Beilenson, Gabriel and Caleb Wiener, and Hayden and Mitchell Yazmer; his brother-in-law David Kaye and his wife Selma; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Ida Lassoff.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the Chapel of Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Wolcott Road, East Granby. A memorial period will be observed at the home of his daughter, 15 Oakengates, Avon on Tuesday following the interment and on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30-8:30 p.m.
