Edelstein

Obituary

Stanley W. Edelstein, M.D., 82, of West Hartford, CT, died March 12 at St. Francis Hospital, after a short illness. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he graduated from Temple University and Hahneman Medical College. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and went on to practice obstetrics and gynecology for nearly 50 years in the Greater Hartford area. He was a member of the staff at Mt. Sinai and Saint Francis Hospitals, and a founding partner of SHE Medical Associates. He loved his work and was devoted to his patients. He brought thousands of beautiful lives into the world, and was blessed to deliver the children of many of those he had delivered. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and a man of honesty, kindness, and compassion.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Barbara Edelstein; three children, David, Jeffrey, and Heidi; and eight grandchildren: Sarah, Binyamin, Yehuda, Miriam, Sam, Harrison, Lucy, and Sylvie.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 14 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi Brahm Weinberg officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery, 27 Jackson St., Avon, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meor DC, a North American, campus-based Jewish outreach organization, of which Rabbi Yosef (Jeffrey) Edelstein is Education Director, at 2435 I Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037 or www.meordc.com/donate.

What a kind, gentle and wonderful physician Stanley was to me throughout my difficulties becoming pregnant and then through the premature birth of our second daughter, Sara! I loved his sense of humor and his caring, considerate and thoughtful approach to women's health.

Barbara, David, Jeffrey and Heidi - with shock and dismay I learned of Stanley's demise. My sympathy to all of you. Despite Stanley's unassuming style he had that persistence that he was always there when needed. Love - Bennett
