Stanley Kaufman, 87, a resident of Newington for more than 50 years and more recently of West Hartford, died on April 12, 2010 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain after a brief illness. He was the son of the late George and Ida Kauffman. Barbara, his wife of 60 years, predeceased him on September 23, 2009. Born in Worcester, MA on October 10, 1922, he was educated in the Hartford school system and graduated from Weaver High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Army Signal Corps in 1942 and was honorably discharged from the Air Corps in 1946 as a sergeant with two battle stars, having served in the Pacific Campaign at Saipan and Iwo Jima. He received his degree from Hillyer College (University of Hartford) in 1956 in Business Administration. Until his retirement, he was the owner of Appliance Repair, Inc. in Manchester CT. Stanley served on the board of Temple Sinai in Newington for many years. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post # 45, the American Legion, the Army & Navy club of Manchester, and Kiwanis of Newington. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #140, a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Sphinx Shrine. He was also an amateur radio operator. Stanley?s cheerfulness, distinctive humor, and enjoyable company were cherished by everyone who knew him. He is survived by a son, Arthur, and his wife, Nancy, of Hillsborough, NH, and by a daughter, Judith, and her husband Steve Kemper, of West Hartford. He leaves three loving grandchildren, Rebecca Kaufman, Ben Kemper, and Alex Kemper, as well as a sister, Eleanor Cordova of West Hartford. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean, wife of Saul Coleman, of Windsor. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Road, Newington. Interment with military honors will follow in Temple Sinai Memorial Park. Family and friends will be received immediately afterwards at the temple.
