Stan Sokolow, 90, of Little Rock Arkansas-formerly of West Hartford-beloved husband, for almost 67 years, of Muriel Sokolow, died on August 29, 2022. Stan was born in Boston to the late Isaac and Rose Sokolow. He was a graduate of Boston Technical High School and Northeastern University, College of Engineering. Stan was a registered Professional Engineer in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Stan and Muriel moved to Hartford in 1956 when he became employed by Hamilton Standard division of United Technologies, a position that became his lifetime career of 50 years. In his 40s he added another “career”–running. He ran 12 marathons including Boston-twice, and New York, and placed well in a number of shorter races. From his mid 60s to his early 80s he played on the Beth El Temple softball team. He was an avid Red Sox fan and an absolutely rabid Boston Bruins fan. Stan also enjoyed reading, live theater, and classical music, especially symphony. Stan was one of the good guys–he was always ready to offer help to anyone who needed it. He will be missed. Stan was predeceased by his beloved daughter Ruthann Sokolow and his sister, Marion Sherr, In addition to his wife, he leaves to remember him: his son and daughter-in-law David Sokolow M.D. and Marta Berger Ph.D.; his grandchildren Jana Sokolow and Paul Sokolow; his great-grandson, Peter Johnson, and Mary Lou Kellner-Gomez, whom he loved like a daughter. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, noon, at Hartford Mutual Cemetery, 74 Wolcott Rd., E. Granby.
