Susan L. Wrubel, R.N., M.S., 62, of Colchester, beloved wife and best friend of William R. Ruocchio, passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Sue earned her B.S. in Nursing from Southern Connecticut State College and an M.S. in Organizational Behavior from the University of Hartford. She began her career as a psychiatric nurse at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Hartford and was most recently employed at Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown as Director of Compliance and Performance Improvement. Sue highly valued continuing education and earned accreditations in Quality Assurance (CPHQ) and Healthcare Regulatory Compliance (CHC). Sue was a devoted pet parent and during the 29 years she spent with her husband, rescued 5 dogs and 6 cats. She especially loved to adopt older, abandoned dogs. In addition to her husband, Sue leaves her brother Jeffrey Wrubel (Debbie) of West Hartford, sisters Marcy Girard of Frisco, TX and Sharon Lavoie (Paul) of East Hartford. She was cherished and loved by 7 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews who brought her boundless joy. Sue was predeceased by her parents Judith and Melvin Wrubel of Bloomfield. Sue’s family wishes to thank the staff of the St. Francis Medical Oncology Unit, especially her dear friend Cheryl Jacques Turner, and Masonicare for their professional tender care and sensitivity to her needs. Honoring Sue’s wishes, a private service was held. She was touched by and grateful for all of the messages of love and support from friends, coworkers at CVH and extended family members.
