Ms. Rivkina was born on May 24th, 1936 in Kiev, Ukraine to Solomon Rivkin and Maria Frenkel. At one year of age, she contracted an illness that left her permanently handicapped. Despite the physical challenges, Ms. Rivkina obtained a college degree in Civil Engineering and had a successful career. For her work efforts, she was awarded the Veteran of Labor medal by the Soviet Union government.
Ms. Rivkina emigrated to the USA in 1992. In the USA she continued to challenge herself,learning English and passing the citizenship exam. Ms. Rivkina did not have her own children but she generously poured her love and affection on her nephews and their children.
Her family paid this tribute to her. “Svetlana was one of the strongest people you have ever met. Despite her physical limitations, she always maintained an independent spirit and enjoyed nothing more than be helpful to others.”
She is survived by her beloved sister,nephews and their families. She will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Thursday, February 14, 2019 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT.
