Sylvia Ann

((Wool))

Saltzman

Obituary

Sylvia Ann (Wool) Saltzman, 89 years of age, of Plainville died Monday, March 13, 2017. Born in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Harriett (Boff) Wool. After the family moved to Vermont, Sylvia graduated from Burlington High School and earned a degree at Rider College in New Jersey. While working at the University of Vermont, she met Marvin Saltzman, who was completing college after serving in the Navy. They married in 1951 and enjoyed living in Switzerland where Marvin studied medicine at the University of Bern. Returning to the U.S. in 1958, they resided in New Britain during Marvin’s internship and residency and moved to Plainville in 1963, where Sylvia raised their sons and managed Marvin’s medical practice. After Marvin died in 2012, Sylvia continued to enjoy her home and the devotion of her family and numerous friends. Sylvia lived a life of love and grace. Family and friends remember Sylvia as a strong and resilient person who always focused on the positive and never had an unkind word for anyone. Her life was marked by tireless acts of kindness and caring. She loved opening her house to friends and family, and her dinner parties were legendary. She and Marvin were fortunate in being able to travel extensively and visit friends abroad. Sylvia leaves her sons, William Saltzman and his wife Lee Anne, and James Saltzman and his wife Nina, and granddaughters, Marissa, Jocelyn, and Danielle Saltzman. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Michael Wool and his wife Martha; Marcia Schlesinger and her husband Lewis; David Wool and his wife Roberta; Edward Saltzman and his wife Mary; Emily Rosen and her husband Stuart; her grand-nieces and nephew; and her cat, Sparky. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 17, 2017 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow in Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospital for Special Care (www.hfsc.org). William and James: I babysat for you two back in the 1960's when you lived on Robert Street Ext. in Plainville. Your Dad was my doctor and your Mom was one of the kindest and caring women I have ever met. I would see Mom in Gnazzos and enjoyed catching up on you two over the years. As a teenager in the 60's, I admired your parents and you two. Your family was an example of everything that is good and right in our world. I am sorry for your loss.
