At age 75, after her husband’s passing, Sylvia began traveling extensively, including a 99 day cruise around the world. She had a keen card sense and was an avid bridge player. In addition to selling Israel bonds, she was a long time member of the Emanuel Synagogue, the Emanuel Sisterhood, an active life member of Hadassah, and a member of ORT, a global education network driven by Jewish values. Sylvia was asked to speak at various ORT meetings regarding her visit to an ORT school in India.
Sylvia began her working career in G. Fox & Company in downtown Hartford, and was then employed by the State of Connecticut. For many years she managed a family owned commercial property, negotiating leases, initiating property improvements, and promptly responding to tenants’ requests. She worked side by side with her husband Ben in his business, Industrial Uniform Company.
Sylvia endeared herself to all who knew her. She was known to her friends and family as very warm and considerate, always putting others first. She had a remarkable memory and would always inquire about siblings, children and family members by name. As one family member put it “She was always so kind and classy. Really a treasure to know.”
