Terry

(Bacharach)

Cohen

Obituary

Terry (Bacharach) Cohen, 64, cherished wife of 41 years to Alan M. Cohen, passed away in her home on Sunday, March 25, 2012, after a courageous four-year battle with leukemia, with her loving family by her side. She is survived by her beloved children, Jennifer Bucari and her husband, Louis Jr. of West Hartford, Jonathan S. Cohen, of Westerly, Rhode Island, her dear sister, Sally Bacharach of South Windsor and was the adored “Grammy” to her grandchildren, Caitlyn and Caroline Bucari. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters- and brothers-in-law: Marlene and Jim Febeo and Debbie and Phil Hale, all of Rocky Hill, as well as her caring niece and nephews, Karen Febeo of Boston, MA, Jim Febeo, Jr. of Boston, MA, David Hale of Manchester, CT and Jason Hale of Providence, R.I., and many, many loving friends. Born in Hartford, she was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Eleanor (Simons) Bacharach, Jr. Her family was among the original charter members of Congregation Beth Israel. Terry’s passion for Judaism made her a true matriarch, teaching her family and all of those around her the true meaning of family, tradition, love, kindness, generosity, and compassion. She also truly loved the beach and spending her summers with her family and friends at Crescent Beach in Niantic. Terry will be loved and missed forever. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Bona and Andrea Morin as well as the staff at UConn Medical Center for their empathy, care, and support.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon. Memorial donations may be made to The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation www.giftoflife.org or the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. For further information, directions, or to sign the guest book for Terry, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.cfm.

Terry was my girlfriend in 1959-1960. I have always remembered that today, June 6, was her birthday and often thought of her whenever June 6 rolled around. Whenever passing 1106 Trout Brook Drive on my visits to back West Hartford over the years I always looked over at the house and remembered her fondly. Just on a whim I Googled her today only to be shocked to learn of her passing.

My condolences to the family.

Dear Alan and Sally,

Our son, Steve, told us of Terry's passing. We were so sorry to get the news, especially after your positive sounding report when we were home back in February. Our heart goes out to both as you deal with your loss and grief.

With great affection,

My memories of Mrs. Cohen (as i referred to her growing up next door) are always warm. She always had time for a big wave hello from across the driveway and a warm smile to share. Jennifer, Jonathan and Mr. Cohen, know that you and your family are in my thoughts. - Rachael Grubin

We remember meeting Terry and her family when Jonathan was recognized by the staff at Ocean Reef Club for his impressive culinary skills and for being the future of excellence in gourmet cooking...representing his generation. It w as a very special time for us all and we were and are so proud. Terry's pride was so evident. All of us were touched by her delightful personality and loved that she was there in attendance on this special occasion. We send hugs to you.

Our first thoughts of Terry was that she was a fine lady, an optimistic and warm woman who adored her family. As next door neighbors we already feel the loss, but she leaves a legacy that will always be remembered by her family and friends.

Dear Jonathan,
I am happy that I got to know your mom a bit and I thoroughly
enjoyed our talks whenever I would see her.
She was an exhuberant, charming and engaging woman with a true love for life and her family.
The world has lost a lovely woman
surely she is with the angels.

Peace be with her and with you and the rest of the family.

We are so very sorry to learn of your mom's passing, Jon.
We never met your mom yet feel as if we know her through your stories. When we read, "passion for Judaism, true meaning of family, tradition, love, kindness, generosity, compassion" it was as if we knew that to be so...plant corn-get corn! Your mom will live on through you, your sister, and the girls. The stories and memories will never die. Consider yourself hugged. The emptiness must be so profound.

I am so sorry to read of Terry's passing. I grew up across the street from Terry and Sally, and played with them when we were kids. I had a boyhood crush on Terry, as did my older brother Steve, with her blond hair, sparkly eyes and ever present smile. Even though it was more than 50 years ago, I still see her the same as back then. It's been more than 10 years since we last saw each other in the Crown Market, but I will always remember her gentle demeanor and kind face.

She will be missed by all who knew her. My heartfelt condolences to her family. You were truly fortunate to have had her in your lives.

Family and Friends - I worked with Terry during her tenure at Cigna and she was always a joy - so friendly, dedicated to doing a good job and willing to go that extra mile. Just last Friday, March 23, I had been reading through some old work documents and came across some photos of our department back in the 90's! There was Terry with her Bloomfield team and it took me down memory lane with a smile. I'm saddened by Terry's passing, but hope she is at peace. God bless.

Dearest Cohen Family.

I only had the pleasure of knowing Terry for a few days, and in that short time I felt her warmth, her appreciation for anything you did for her and how she made those around her feel important. But most of all, I saw the mutual love between her and her family. She has left a beautiful legacy of love, courage and respect for those whom she left behind. Fondly, Carolyn Levine
