William B. Glotzer, age 88 of Glastonbury, CT, peacefully passed away early Sunday morning November 3, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the best friend and husband of 67 years of Janice (Franklin) Glotzer. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Isadore and Sara (Saxe) Glotzer. He served in the European and Pacific theaters during World War II as a combat infantryman with the 97th Division of the US Army. Following the war, Bill graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in accounting. After 64 proud years in practice as a Certified Public Accountant, he retired only this October.
Besides his family, he was most proud of his service to the community: e.g. he was an elected member of the Glastonbury Board of Finance for 24 years and its chairman for 20, on the Board of Directors and a Corporator of St. Francis Hospital for 20 years, a founding trustee of Friends of Welles Turner Library’s Second Century Fund, and a member of the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce for over 60 years including its treasurer for 20. Over the years he also was secretary of Glastonbury Democratic Committee, a board member of Citizens Bank, treasurer of the Glastonbury Free Academy, member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 45, B’nai B’rith, Connecticut Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, Lions Club, and Temple Beth Israel. Bill was also proud of the honor of being named Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1983, Glastonbury Democrat of the Year in 1979, and Jaycee Distinguished Service Award in 1975.
Besides his soul mate, Bill leaves his two daughters and their husbands, Sherry Harriman and her husband Jim of South Glastonbury and Ellen Stoltz and her husband Joel of West Hartford; four grandchildren, Marni Lane and her husband Jason, Josh Harriman and his wife Kimberly, Jeremy Stoltz and his wife Alyssa, and Shira Matityahu and her husband Boaz; and five great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves his brother Frederick Glotzer of Norwalk. Bill was predeceased by his brother Mortimer Glotzer and great-granddaughter Colette Lane.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Temple Beth Israel on Farmington Ave. in West Hartford on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Burial will immediately follow at Beth Israel’s Cemetery in Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
