William

(B.)

Glotzer

Obituary

William B. Glotzer, age 88 of Glastonbury, CT, peacefully passed away early Sunday morning November 3, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the best friend and husband of 67 years of Janice (Franklin) Glotzer. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Isadore and Sara (Saxe) Glotzer. He served in the European and Pacific theaters during World War II as a combat infantryman with the 97th Division of the US Army. Following the war, Bill graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in accounting. After 64 proud years in practice as a Certified Public Accountant, he retired only this October. Besides his family, he was most proud of his service to the community: e.g. he was an elected member of the Glastonbury Board of Finance for 24 years and its chairman for 20, on the Board of Directors and a Corporator of St. Francis Hospital for 20 years, a founding trustee of Friends of Welles Turner Library’s Second Century Fund, and a member of the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce for over 60 years including its treasurer for 20. Over the years he also was secretary of Glastonbury Democratic Committee, a board member of Citizens Bank, treasurer of the Glastonbury Free Academy, member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 45, B’nai B’rith, Connecticut Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, Lions Club, and Temple Beth Israel. Bill was also proud of the honor of being named Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1983, Glastonbury Democrat of the Year in 1979, and Jaycee Distinguished Service Award in 1975. Besides his soul mate, Bill leaves his two daughters and their husbands, Sherry Harriman and her husband Jim of South Glastonbury and Ellen Stoltz and her husband Joel of West Hartford; four grandchildren, Marni Lane and her husband Jason, Josh Harriman and his wife Kimberly, Jeremy Stoltz and his wife Alyssa, and Shira Matityahu and her husband Boaz; and five great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves his brother Frederick Glotzer of Norwalk. Bill was predeceased by his brother Mortimer Glotzer and great-granddaughter Colette Lane. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Temple Beth Israel on Farmington Ave. in West Hartford on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Burial will immediately follow at Beth Israel’s Cemetery in Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Dearest Mrs. Glotzer, Sherry, Jim, Ellen, Joel, Marni, Josh, Jeremy, Shira, the greats and the in-laws and his entire extended family: Tears are still flowing because we have lost such a wonderful, gracious man. I have been so blessed that you permitted me to be a part of your lives. Mr. Glotzer taught me so much in my short time in his employ, but the lessons have been with me my entire life. He taught me patience, how to roll with the flow, not to give up and to enjoy life. I will never forget how he started to panic just before my wedding that I had not gone to select my china, flatware and crystal. He took me to Lux Bond Green & Stevens one afternoon at lunch and guided me in my selection giving the pros and the cons to my selection. He wanted the best for not just his family but for those who were close to him. My china, crystal and flatware are still together and used quite often. He was and always will be my favorite and most special friend. My deepest condolences and sympathy to all of you. Yvonne, Michael & Maria Loudis

I remember visiting their house as a little boy. He took me down the hill to the pond behind their property. It seemed like a lake because I was so small. We looked for frogs and threw rocks in the water. He was just the kindest person you ever met.

I love you, Uncle Bill

Dearest Mrs. Glotzer, Sherry, Jim, Ellen, Joel and all the grands and greats:

I am still tearing and the pain in my heart is so great at the loss of Mr. G, so I can only imagine what this is like for all of you. He was so loved by not just all of you, but also by so many of us -- me in particular. Mr. G was always quick with the smile and that knowing chuckle that he possessed. He will always be dear to my heart and to my family as you all have been. He was not just my employer, he was my mentor and taught me so much. He was such a phenomenal individual for whom I had the privilege of knowing and best yet, he shared his whole family with me. I am unable to make the services because of some previously scheduled conflicts, but my spirit will be with all of you through this most difficult week. My prayers for strength and courage are with all of you. Mr. G will never be forgotten for he will long live in all of our hearts. Yvonne, Michael & Maria Loudis
