Zak Wellins, 34, of Wethersfield overcame his battle with cancer on August 27, 2005 to go on to be with his dad, Howard, who predeceased him on October 13, 1989.
Zak was born September 23, 1970 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio where he lived until moving to West Hartford in 1976. He attended Hall High School in West Hartford and went on to excel in the school of life. Zak is survived by his mother Donna, and his brothers Jonah, Gabe and Matt. Also surviving him are his grandmother, June Brunner of Lorain, Ohio, his uncle Dave Brunner of Lander, Wyoming, his nephew Jonah Nicholas and niece, Chloe Elizabeth of E. Granby and his Aunt Sherri Wellins of Orlando, Florida. Zak worked hard and lived strong. He was a friend to all, always making sure everything was “good” and everyone was “all right”. His passions were his family, friends and work, and his spirit will live in them forever. Zak touched more people than anyone will ever know and we will all be eternally grateful for the time we had with him. He was our friend, our mentor and our hero. To honor his battle, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbi David Small officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon.
