Abraham Zubrow of West Hartford, formerly of Naples, FL, and Manchester, died Monday, March 12, 2018 at age 99. He was preceded in death by his much beloved wife of 61 years, Edythe Neckrich Zubrow, and by a brother Yale and sisters Minnie Gershman, Anna Bursack, Jean Gershenowitz, and Rose Fine. He is survived by three children: Victor Zubrow (Martha) of Coral Springs, FL, Barbara Zubrow (Jerome Krasnow) of Manchester, CT, and David Zubrow (LeeAnn) of Narragansett, RI. He leaves five grandchildren-Alicia Klein (Michael) of Pittsburgh, PA, Ari Wichman of Manchester, Eric Zubrow (Kristen) of Glastonbury, CT, Michael Zubrow (Kristin) of Hillsborough, NJ, and Lindsey Kelly (Jon) of South Kingston, RI, and six great-grandchildren-Drew, Peyton, and Erin Klein, Sam and Rose Kelly, and Riley Zubrow. The family thanks Sofia Wilson-Carby for nearly four years of her skillful and compassionate care. Born in Ukraine, he came to this country at age four. A graduate of Weaver High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received his degree in pharmacy from Connecticut College of Pharmacy (later a part of UConn) then located in New Haven. He founded Westown Pharmacy in Manchester in 1947. In 1976 he and Edythe retired to Naples, FL, while maintaining a home in Connecticut near their family. He was a member of Temple Beth Sholom (now Beth Sholom B’nei Israel) in Manchester, Teferes Israel in Bloomfield, Temple Shalom in Naples, and a life member of Hadassah.. He belonged to several community organizations, including Kiwanis, Rotary Club, and Naples Council of World Affairs. He supported numerous veterans’ organizations and was an active member of Jewish War Veterans of Collier County. He was an avid golfer at Ellington Ridge Country Club in Connecticut and Imperial Golf Club in Naples.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 16, in the chapel at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, followed by burial at Piaterer Verein cemetery, 623-629 Jordan Lane in Wethersfield. There will be a gathering after the interment at Beth Sholom B’nei Israel, 400 Middle Turnpike East, Manchester. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Edythe and Abe Zubrow Endowment Fund at Beth Sholom B’nai Israel in Manchester, CT.
