Anita (Schachter) Frankel, 83, of Storrs died October 4, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Rose (Honig) Schachter. She was an avid genealogical researcher and enjoyed opera, foreign films and other fine arts; Rachel Maddow; knitting; Scrabble and the Sunday New York Times crossword. She attended Brooklyn College and graduated from the University of Nebraska, then received two master’s degrees and a doctorate in international relations from UConn. She taught Political Science at the University of Connecticut, Trinity College, Central Connecticut State University and Eastern Connecticut State University. She was a member of Hadassah and the Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut. She was the beloved wife of Larry Frankel for 62 years; loving mother of Bobbie Frankel and her partner Michael Tavani of Woodstock, CT; Nina Frankel and her husband David DiGiuseppe of Chapel Hill, NC; and Sara Joan Frankel-Bermel and her husband Guy L. Bermel of Providence, RI; and cherished grandmother of Jeremiah Simon and Joshua-Shiah Bermel. Graveside services will be held at 11am on Friday, October 5 at the Hillel Burial Society Cemetery, Perkins Corner, Mansfield.
