Ann Gertrude (Gard) Bendell, 77, of Bloomfield passed away on Saturday, (December 15, 2012). She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and special aunt. Ann was born on October 10, 1935 in Hartford. A graduate of Weaver High School, class of 1953 and the daughter of the late Morris and Sarah Gard. She was predeceased by her sister Alice Fishberg Rosenberg and her brother Seymour Gard. Ann was married to her loving and devoted husband Herb for 56 years. They worked alongside each other at the infamous “Herb’s Donut Shop” in Bloomfield. Ann was also employed at the Hartford Insurance Group from where she retired. Ann was a member of the Daughters of The Nile, Sphinx Shrine in Newington. Besides her husband Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Theresa Bendell of Simsbury; her daughter Randi Derench and son Steven Bendell of Fort Meyers, FL. Ann was the proud “Mimi” of Sarah and Ross Bendell of Simsbury, Brandon Derench of Bloomfield and Tyler Derench of Burbank, CA and special aunt to Marilyn Goodman and Susan Steiner. Ann, “Mimi”, “Iggy” will be remembered for her spirited personality, chicken soup, kugel, and her devotion to her family. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17,2012 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of The Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Howard Herman officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Wolcott Rd., East Granby. A memorial period will be observed Monday-Wednesday, 29 Nolan Drive, Bloomfield.
