Arthur Noel Schuman, 89, of West Hartford, CT passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27th, at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Olga (Emaiken) and Dr. David Schuman. He was married for 62 wonderful years to his wife, Toby (Ackerman), of Springfield, MA.

Arthur was educated at the Mount Hermon School and the University of Hartford. In 1980, he proudly founded S & S Management Services, Inc. in Bloomfield, where he served as President and Board Chair. Arthur was a founding member and Past President of the Connecticut Society of Association Executives, which also named him the 1987 Association Executive of the Year. He was a member of the American Society of Association Executives, the American Association of Medical Society Executives, and the International Association of Association Management Companies.

In 2000, he was honored by the Connecticut State Medical Society with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Arthur was an Honorary Member of the Connecticut Psychiatric Society, the Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians. CAFP named him a “Superhero of Family Medicine” and he earned the President’s Award from the AAFP.

Dedicated to his community, Arthur was a life member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center and Past President of the William Hall High School Parent/Teacher Association. He was a youth soccer coach and a member of Beth El Temple in West Hartford.

Arthur was an avid bridge player and loved golfing with friends and family at Rockledge Golf Club and at Tumble Brook County Club, where he was a longtime member. He was also a passionate fan of the New York Mets, the New York Giants, UCONN Basketball, and the Hartford Whalers.

He is survived by his three children, Amy Snider of Palm Harbor, FL, Mark Schuman and his wife, Sandra of Canton, CT and Wendy Weinstein and her husband, Stephen, of North Caldwell, NJ. He also leaves seven adoring grandchildren, Josie and Michael Snider; Matthew and Arianna Schuman; and Allie, Sydney and Kate Weinstein, and sister-in-law, Doris Margolis.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Beth El Temple in West Hartford, with a reception immediately following the burial back at Beth El.
