Bernard M. Slater, 88 years of age, of Bloomfield, formerly of Hamburg Cove, Lyme, CT, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017. He was the husband of the late Sydney (Subit) Slater. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Frank H. and Anna (Fierberg) Slater. He moved to West Hartford as a child, attended local schools, and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1950. Bernie served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of The Connecticut Credit and Adjustment Bureau for over 40 years. He is a life member of the Board of Trustees of the Emanuel Synagogue of West Hartford, a member of Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek in Chester, and served on the boards of several local institutions including the Y.M.C.A, the Jewish Community Center, and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of the Judicial Review Council. He was the president of his statewide business organization, a founding member of the Greater Hartford Open Golf Tournament, a Little League coach and umpire, and an avid runner participating in many marathons.

He leaves his daughters, Deborah R. Slater and her husband Brad Witte of West Hartford, and Pamela Gilman of Wellesley, MA; and his grandchildren, Lauren and Erica Witte, Hannah and Sam Gilman.

Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 1:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek, 55 East Kings Highway, Chester. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3 Landmark Square, #330, Stamford, CT 06901. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
