Bernice (L.) Ellis

Bernice L. Ellis of West Hartford, died peacefully at home surrounded by family members on Saturday January 20, 2018. Born in Hartford in 1928, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Dora (Kaplan) Lutin. After raising 4 children, she returned to school and graduated from CCSU. She was the store manager for Kabels Luggage in West Hartford Center for many years. She was predeceased by her husband William M. (Bill) Ellis, and her sister, Thelma Gold. Bernice and her husband were founding members of Temple Sinai in Newington. An avid tennis player well into her 70’s, Bernie loved watching sports, and followed the UConn Women’s Basketball team with a passion. She was thrilled to have attended several Final Four tournaments. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and handmade quilts hang in all her children’s homes. Even her beloved rescue dog, Jake, had his own hand-quilted blanket. She leaves her 4 children: Marcie, Steven, Cathy, and Laurie, and their spouses. She also leaves 4 grandchildren: Sarah and Josh Tobin, Jennifer Plant, Katelyn Corpe, as well as 4 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your preferred animal shelter or cancer organization. A private memorial will be held at the convenience of the family.
