Bernice Charlotte Veroff, 96, of West Hartford, died Sunday, August 18, 2019 peacefully at home. Born in Hartford, April 12, 1923, her parents were Henry R. Lippman and Bessie Lippman. She was the wife of the late Harold Veroff. She leaves a daughter Amy Veroff of Bethesda, Maryland, a son and daughter in law, Robert Veroff and Judy Beiriger of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a granddaughter Rachel Veroff of New York City. She was predeceased by her grandson Erik Veroff and her sisters Ruth Mag and Sylvia Zuckerman. Her high school years were spent in Springfield Massachusetts where she attended Classical High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree at North Adams State Teachers College and moved back to Hartford in 1947. She taught school at Morley Elementary 12 years. Pursuing her interest in art, she took many art classes at the University of Hartford. She and her husband loved to travel, traveling to many countries and to Israel several times. Most of her adult life was dedicated to supporting projects in Israel through her work in Hadassah and the Jewish Federation. She was a Life Member of Hadassah and past president of the Hartford chapter. In 1996 she received the 13th annual Hadassah National Leadership Award that honors members whose leadership accomplishments within Hadassah and other civic, educational and cultural organizations reflect Hadassah’s dedication to the principles of the volunteer ethic. She was chairman for 2 years of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford’s Women’s Division. She established the Business and Professional Women’s Division which supported women’s professional development and raised money for the Women’s Division Campaign. She was a Life Member of the Federation Board and in 1996 became a member of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford’s Quarter Century Society, honoring individuals who have given to any community’s Federation for 25 years or more.
The funeral will be 11:00am Wednesday August 21, 2019 at graveside at the Jonathan Welfare Society Cemetery at the corner of Tower Avenue and Garden Street in Hartford.
