Bernice Wiener

Bernice (Smitman) Wiener, 89 of Teaneck, NJ, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025. She was born and raised in Hartford, CT. Bernice was the loving mother of Debbie Freesman, Grandmother of Michele (Brian)Levenson, Gabrielle Freesman and Adam Freesman and Great Grandmother of Arielle Levenson. Bernice adored her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great Granddaughter Arielle. Bernice was predeceased by her loving husband Al, whom she was married to for 47 years.

Besides her daughter, Bernice is survived by her sister, Cookie, brother-in law, Victor and Sister-in-law, Karen, nieces, and nephews.

Bernice was a skilled Mahjongg and Rummikub player. She enjoyed cryptograms and word games and took pride in being one of the word game champs at her assisted living facility.

Graveside services will be held at Beth El Cemetery, Jackson Street, Avon CT and Shiva will be observed at the home of her daughter, Debbie in NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:
