Charlotte (Bedrick) Coan

Charlotte Bedrick Coan, 99, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at the Wethersfield Manor on Saturday, (February 14, 2009). She was born in Fall River. MA, on September 30, 1909, the daughter of Max and Anna Bedrick. After graduating from Katherine Gibbs School she later became a buyer at the Mt. Sinai Hospital Gift Shop. She was elected President of Ararat Chapter of B’nai B’rith, in 1947 and sat on the Board of the Hartford Chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women. She was also a member of the Emanuel Synagogue. After retiring to West Palm Beach, FL, and Clinton, CT, in 1973, she and her husband, Dr. Bernard T. Coan, returned to West Hartford in the early 1990’s to reside at the Chatfield Retirement Home in West Hartford. She loved painting and has left many pictures of her artwork. Her wonderful personality will always be remembered by those close to her. She was predeceased by her husband in 1999, and by her sister, Helene Heller of Montgomery, AL, and her brother, Seymour Bedrick of Nashua, NH. She leaves two sons, Dr. Donald Coan and his wife Sharon of San Clemente, CA, and Richard D, Coan and his wife Karen of Wolfeboro, NH. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Dara Geckeler of Oakland, CA, Tamara Coan of Laguna Niguel, CA, Andrea Moriarty of Braintree, MA and Jason Coan of Newington. In addition she leaves three great grandchildren, Jennifer and MacKenzi Coan of Newington, and Liah Moriarty of Braintree, MA. The Coan family would like to thank Charlotte’s nurse, Roxanne Wright, for the wonderful care and concern as well as the staff at the Chatfield Retirement Home. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Emanuel Cemetery with Rabbi Howard Herman presiding. Weinstein Mortuary has care of the arrangements
