Damase Eugene "Gene" Cheverier

Damase Eugene “Gene” Cheverier, 77, of Carlyle Road, West Hartford died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Nelson and Matilda (Henri) Cheverier. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II having fought in Tsing Tau, China at the age of 17. He was a retired police officer, City of Hartford, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the VFW. Gene had an inquiring mind and an insatiable curiosity that never stopped to the very end. He leaves his beloved wife, Sheila (Gann) Cheverier; two sons: David Cheverier and his wife Lisa of Trabuco Canyon, CA, Erick Cheverier and his wife Donna of Boylston, MA; a daughter: Elizabeth Downes and her husband David of Newington; six grandchildren: Chad, Dustin, Brian, Taylor, Jamie and Chantelle; a great granddaughter: Ashlynn; and two sisters: Maryjane D’Ambrosia and Madeline Cheverier both of FL. He was predeceased by two brothers: Nelson and Ed Cheverier and three sisters: Albertha, Pearl and Arbutus. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2006 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. A memorial period will be observed at his home, 74 Carlyle Road, West Hartford, through Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to a Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
