Daniel Robert Schaefer, passed away at the age of 84 on March 28,2023. He was born to the late Alice (Leavitt) Schaefer and Dr. Abraham Maurice Schaefer on April 1,1939, in Hartford CT. He was a proud member of the United States Navy and served on the USS Shangri-La during the Vietnam era. Dan was a graduate of Yale University in New Haven CT. and the University of Connecticut School of Law. Daniel worked for over 53 years in the Office of Assistant Attorney General in the special litigation section. He practiced law up to his retirement on April 1,2022. Dan was a long time member of Congregation Beth Israel, in West Hartford and he served as President of Beth Israels Brotherhood. He was an active member of the Jewish War Veterans, Sgt John L. Levitow Post 45. Having a keen interest in Israel, Dan was a Zionist and a Staunch supporter of Aipac, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. He actively participated in and served as a board member of Primer-CT. A nonprofit organization that tracks media coverage of Israel and the middle east.. He is survived by his sister Caroline Cooper and her husband Howard of Chevy Chase MD. Two nieces Jennifer Sheehan of Milton MA and Sarah Cooper of Chevy Chase MD, and a nephew, David Cooper of Washington DC. Services for our Dan will be April 2,2023 at 1:30pm at Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. Interment will follow the service at The Beth Israel Cemetery in Hartford at the corner of Ward and Affleck Streets. The family and friends of Daniel wish to thank the Hughes Health and Rehabilitation Center on Highland street for their kind, loving and exceptional care given to Dan.
