Dorothy (Greenstein) Rudis, 92 years of age, of Old Bethpage NY, beloved wife of 58 years to the late Morris Rudis, died Friday, May 5, 2017 at Seabury Meadows in Bloomfield CT. Born June 12, 1924 in New York, NY, she celebrated her birthdays on June 13.
She was the daughter of the late William and Celia Fanny (Schoenberger) Greenstein. Dottie was predeceased by her cherished sisters and brothers, Helen, Lena and Rita, and Sam, Murvin and Adolf. Dottie grew up in the Bronx, graduating from Theodore Roosevelt High School. She enjoyed summers at Rockaway Beach. She attended City University of New York where she met her lifelong friends, Jean and Harry Schneider. They introduced her to Morris and the four enjoyed a lifetime of adventures as members of the Aoudad Society. They all enjoyed camping and hiking in the Adirondacks and along the coast of Maine and time spent at their camp in Colrain MA. Dottie loved all kinds of crafts. She painted, made enamel on copper jewelry, knitted, crocheted, embroidered, did needlepoint, sewed, made mosaics, terrariums and much more. She enjoyed folk dancing, traveling and cooking for her family. Dottie supported Morris in his dream of driving across the United States with the family in 1969. She and Morris continued to have great fun driving south to Colonial Williamsburg and Walt Disney World every winter for many years. Dottie was a friend to everyone with her warm smile and caring attention, she could walk into a room and instantly make a friend. Dottie worked at Bloomingdales as an assistant buyer in furniture. After moving to Long Island, she worked for Dorman Cheese Company in Syosset NY for many years. She was a devoted caregiver to Morris in his declining years but they always continued to have fun. Dottie spent the last eight years at Brookdale Senior Living where she enjoyed all the activities with her friend Linda, especially playing Scrabble every day.
Dottie is survived by her children and their spouses, Linda and her husband Arthur Carlson III of Manchester CT and Robert and his wife Catherine of White Plains NY and their children, LeAnna, Arthur Carlson IV and Islam Bilalovski of Manchester CT, Mackenzie Rudis of Rosendale, and Zachary and Skylar Rudis of White Plains NY. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Seabury Meadows in Bloomfield as well as Masonicare Hospice for the tender care given in Dottie’s last days.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford CT. Services will be held at 3:30 PM on Monday, May 8, 2017 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, with Rabbi Terry Greenstein, wife of Dottie’s nephew Daniel, officiating. Interment will follow on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the New Montefiore Cemetery, West Babylon, NY.
