Dr. Herman H. Glassman of West Hartford, CT passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016, after a very brief illness, surrounded by family and friends. He was 87. Dr. Glassman was the husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Dalton) Glassman. He leaves behind his significant other, Martha Dill, with whom he spent many happy years together. Born in Hartford, CT, Dr. Glassman was the son of the late Max and Anna (Brass) Glassman. He was a First Lieutenant in the US Air Force during the Korean War. A graduate of Weaver High School and the University of Connecticut, he received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Indiana University in 1956. Dr. Glassman interned at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, served his urology residency at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY and was Chief Resident in urology at the Syracuse VA Hospital.
Dr. Glassman practiced urology in the greater Hartford area for many years until his retirement in 1996 and was well respected by patients and colleagues where he practiced with privileges at Mt. Sinai, Hartford Hospital and St. Francis Hospital.
Dr. Glassman was also blessed to leave behind loving stepchildren who brought him much joy throughout his life; Howard McCormick and his wife Kathryn of Windsor, Ct; Maureen Strader and her husband James Benedicks of Romulus, N.Y. and Joan Thompson and her husband Philip of Mattaponi, VA; seven grandchildren, Ryan McCormick, Brianne McCormick, Caitlin Gaudreau, Howard Strader, Bethany Strader, Meghan Turner and Laurel Okulski and four great grandchildren Cayleigh Markel, Nathan and Leah McCormick and Sophia Okulski. He was predeceased by two stepchildren; Robert McCormick and Janice Lootens. Dr. Glassman also leaves behind Robert and Josie Dill and their daughter, Jasmine, who have been part of Dr. Glassman’s family for the last 12 years of his life.
Dr. Glassman is survived by two brothers, Abraham Glassman and his wife, Beverly of West Hartford, CT, and Harvey Glassman and his wife, Sheila of Bloomfield, CT. He was predeceased by a sister, Jeanette Pearlman. Dr. Glassman also leaves behind four nieces and five nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2016, in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi Howard Herman officiating. Interment will follow in the Piaterer Verein Society Cemetery, Jordan Lane Ext., Wethersfield, CT. Following the interment on Thursday, the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Harvey and Sheila Glassman, 35 Burnwood Drive, Bloomfield, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to the Max and Anna Glassman Memorial fund at the Hebrew Home.
