Edward (Barry) Ellis

Edward Barry Ellis, 62 years of age, of Delray Beach, FL and Glastonbury, past away suddenly, Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Hyman and Gertrude (Tamaren) Ellis. Ed was the loving and devoted husband of 41 years to Jane (Feigenbaum) Ellis; and adoring and cherished father of Brian S. Ellis of Glastonbury, and Karen I. Ellis of Belmont, MA. He also leaves his sisters, Susan Strevens and her husband John of Huntington, and Joanne Ellis Lohman of West Hartford; and his sisters-in-law, Dr. Susan Feigenbaum and her husband Dr. Jay Pepose of St. Louis, MO, and Pamela Feigenbaum of Alexandria, VA. Ed will be missed by all of his nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and friends. After owning and managing a number of gas/convenience stores, he also worked for the US Postal Service until he retired. He then worked as a Glastonbury School crossing guard. Ed will be best remembered as a volunteer for many organizations, including the Glastonbury Fire Department, Glastonbury Ambulance as an EMT, and more recently he volunteered as a ‘Rover’ for the Palm Beach Florida Sheriff’s Department. Prior to funeral services at 11:00 AM Monday, February 13, 2012, the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30-11:00 AM, in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Garden St., Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends at his home in Glastonbury, Monday following the interment through Wednesday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
