Edythe (Deedee) Goldstein, age 84, of Richmond, VA, formerly of New Britain, passed away July 17, 2010. She was the widow of Charles Goldstein. Deedee is survived by her two children and spouses, Robert and Kay Goldstein of Albany, OR and David and Sharon Johannas of Richmond, VA; and her three grandchildren, Shayna Goldstein of Portland, OR, Kari Goldstein of Seattle, WA, and Zoe Johannas of Richmond, VA. Deedee was born in Hartford in 1926. She spent her life dedicated to her family, and helping others. She worked with handicapped children in Connecticut and devoted her volunteer efforts to Hadassah. In 2005 Deedee received the prestigious Richmond History Makers Award at the Valentine Richmond History Center, recognized in the category of ‘Promoting Stronger Communities’. This recognition was for her tireless work advancing breast and testicular cancer awareness, in the greater Richmond community, through Hadassah’s award winning Check It Out program. A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 10:30 AM in the Beth Alom Cemetery in New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to Hadassah of Richmond, care of Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, P.O. Box 17128, Richmond, VA 23226, or to the VCU Massey Cancer Center, P.O.
