Elaine (Minkin) Schwartz

d. March 7, 2024

Elaine Paula (Minkin) Schwartz, 84, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital with her loving husband Esmund by her side on March 7, 2024 . Elaine was born on March 20, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY to Hyman and Clara (Langsam) Minkin.

Educated at New Utrecht High School and Brooklyn College, Elaine had a varied and wonderfully interesting employment career. Before moving to Connecticut, Elaine was a bookkeeper in the real estate field and a paraprofessional for the Brooklyn Board of Education. In Connecticut, Elaine worked as a reporter for the Norwich Bulletin, an office coordinator for Colt Firearms, a credit manager for Guida Dairy and in the radiology department at Mount Sinai Hospital. Her most enjoyable position came when she and her husband opened and operated a successful nationwide internet business for many years.

But by far, Elaine’s greatest pleasure was her grandchildren. Tirelessly cheering them on at the many soccer and hockey games, and attending school concerts throughout the years. Her beef brisket and matzoh ball soup will be greatly missed.

Elaine believed strongly and passionately in doing good deeds and helping people. For many years she served proudly as a board member for the Interval House in Hartford for abused women. She helped in the formation of a Hadassah Chapter in Wethersfield and Glastonbury. She served as a founding member in the establishment of Congregation Kol Haverim in Glastonbury and procured a Holocaust Torah for the Congregation. For many years Elaine ran the Bingo Café at Beth David Synagogue Bingo night.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 63 years, Esmund Schwartz, who she met at a YMHA Dance in Brooklyn, their son David, of East Hartford, their son Mark (Julie) of Old Saybrook, granddaughter Rebecca (fiancé Daniel Evangelakos) of Redding and NYC, and grandson William (fiancée Kristen Gaetgens) of Clinton. She is also survived by brother-in-law Alvin (Eilene) Schwartz of Estero Florida. Besides her parents Elaine was predeceased by her sister Norma Miller . She leaves special friends, Robyn and Harry Weller.

Burial will be on March 9, 2024, at the Beth David Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield, CT, at 10 am. Shiva will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Beth David Synagogue, 20 Dover Road, West Hartford, CT 06109 or Interval House PO Box 340207, Hartford, CT 06134.
