Eleanor (Gross) Koppel, of Issaquah, WA, formally of West Hartford CT passed away at the age of 84 on May 4, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Morton A. Koppel for 62 years. Born in Bronx, NY she was the daughter of the late Simpson and Eve (Seiden) Gross and the sister of Bernard Gross.
Ellie grew up in Saratoga, NY, attended the University of Miami and then returned to Saratoga to attend Skidmore College to be closer to home. She met Mort at a New Year’s Eve party and the romance blossomed. They were soon married. Settling in West Hartford she raised her three sons. She loved watching them play little league baseball and supporting all their activities. As her family grew she began working in marketing research and eventually had a career selling real estate. Above all, her passion and priority was her family. She was a nurturing and loving Grandmother to her 7 grandchildren. Ellie loved to socialize with friends and family and hosted many memorable gatherings. She had a flair for fashion and design which she beautifully expressed through knitting, needlepoint and painting. She loved the Boston Red Sox, the New York Giants and was a loyal fan of UConn Men’s & Women’s Basketball.
In addition to her husband, Eleanor leaves her sons, Michael G. Koppel and his wife, Shari, of Sammamish, WA, Daniel R. Koppel and his wife, Chris, of Norwalk, CT and Evan M. Koppel and his wife, Julie, of Ashburn, VA; her beloved grandchildren Jessica, Jordan, Ethan, Ben, Adam, Rebecca and Deron.
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday May 9 at 11am in the Sanctuary of Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Road, Newington, CT with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Sinai Memorial Park. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Marilyn Steinmetz, 104 Cliffmore Rd. West Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
