LEDERER, Elizabeth L. 95, of 22 Simsbury Rd., West Hartford, formerly of Forest Hills, NY, died peacefully Friday morning, February 8th, with her loving and devoted daughter Judith Lederer by her side. She also leaves beloved grandchildren Naomi Marcus and Joshua Marcus, Matthew Finneman, son-in-law Michael Marcus, niece and nephew Barbara and George Lederer. Born in Vienna, Austria to the late Frieda (Rosenbaum) and Hans Lederer, she was predeceased by her husband Wilfred Lederer, and by a brother, Herbert Lederer. Lisl faced every challenge with spirited determination, including the family’s escape to France in 1938, detention in a displaced persons’ camp in Vichy-ruled Morocco, followed by a year-long trans-Atlantic ship voyage with no port willing to welcome refugees fleeing Nazi terror.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 10, 2019 in the Sanctuary of Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Road, Newington with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Ferncilff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY. On Tuesday between 6:00-9:00 p.m. the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of her daughter, 176 Penn Drive, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to support those suffering from Guillaine-Barré https://www.gbs-cidp.org. or to support refugee families. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
