Emily ((Kernberg)) Strauss

Emily Kernberg Strauss, 92, of West Hartford passed away at home on July 24th. She was predeceased by her husband, Eric Strauss. Emily is survived by her son, Steven Strauss, and his wife Laurie of West Hartford, and her daughter, Tina Turner, and her husband Stanley of West Hartford; six grandchildren - Jennifer Strauss and her fiancé Rob Marks, Adam Strauss, Frank Turner and his wife Amy, Chad Turner and his wife Karyn, Jason Turner and his fiancée Sandra Zizinga, Heather Kaplan and her husband Dave. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Dyllan, Logan, Amaya, Annalise, Tyler, Evan, Eyan, Caden, Blake, and Eric. She also leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Pearl Vogel, and her sister-in-law Marga Oppenheimer, as well as many nieces and nephews. A very special thank-you to Mariam Saghirashvili, who took such extraordinary care of Emily in her final months, and also to Ines Linares, who also gave great care. We also would like to thank Patricia and everyone at Masonicare Hospice for their excellent care. Emily was born in Lvov, Poland, to Sprinza and Samuel Kernberg, however, most of her family died in the Holocaust. She was a survivor of Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. She came to the U.S. in 1946 and met Eric Strauss; they married in 1948. Emily was a long-time member of Congregation Beth Israel and was past president of B’nai B’rith. She enjoyed being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the center of her family, making special meals for the holidays with her enjoyment for cooking. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren looked forward to going to visit Grandma, because they knew there were always special treats. She was loved very much by her family and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 26th at 9:30 am at the Beth Israel Cemetery in Avon, CT. A memorial period will be observed at Somerset-Community room, 1 King Philip Dr. W.H. on Sunday, July 26th from 10:30am-8pm.
