Estelle (Salowitz) Alcon

Estelle Alcon, 93, of Cheshire, Farmington and Kingston, NY passed away on Saturday (June 11, 2005). Estelle was co-owner of Louis Alcon Family Shoe Store, East Strand St., Kingston for 35 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Alcon. Estelle graduated from Williams Memorial Institute High School in New London. She was a life long member of Congregation Agudas Achim of Kingston, NY. Estelle was a volunteer for the Kingston Hospital Auxiliary and president of the Congregation Agudas Achim Sisterhood and life long member of Hadassah. In Kingston and Farmington she was always known as the best and most prolific baker. When the Agudas Achim had their cake sale everybody wanted to know which cakes were made by Estelle. Estelle moved to the Gables eight years ago from Kingston. Anyone walking by her door at the Gables was drawn by the incredible aromas coming from her apartment all hours of the day. She lived at Highland Health Care in Cheshire for almost two years. From our family to every person at Highland Health Care we are giving you back all the hugs that you gave our Mom. Estelle possessed a strong conscience and a loving and forgiving heart, she will be missed by all. Estelle has left footprints in many of our hearts and we will never be the same. Estelle was a dedicated Mom and business woman from whom we have all learned so much. She was born in Whistletown (Niantic). Estelle was the dearest mother of Hyla and Jim Cohen of Cheshire, and Marilyn and David Hendel of W. Hartford. She was predeceased by her dear parents, Celia (Weinstein) Salowitz and Harris Salowitz of East Lyme; her dear brothers, Samuel (Eva) Salowitz, Hyman Salowitz, and Louis (Sarah) Salowitz; and dear sisters, Florence (Charles) Marcus, and Harriet (Sam) Golumbic. Estelle was the dearest, most cherished grandmother of Stacey Cohen of Indianapolis, IN, Lisa and Jed Finman of W. Hartford, and Cindy and Jay Botwick of W. Hartford; dearest great-grandmother of Lindsay and Allison Finman, and Alex Botwick of W. Hartford. She was the dear aunt of Brenda and Irwin Kurns, Carolee and Herb Silverman, Terry Marcus, Cynthia Golumbic, and Harvey Golumbic; and brother, Jack Salowitz. Dear nieces and nephews, Amy and Alex Filotto, David Kurns, Alan and Dora Alcon, Lorie, David, Vicky and Matthew Bailey, Mitchell and Rachel Marcus, Mindy and Mark Levy, Charlie and Jennifer Silverman, Jay and Evelyn Silverman, and Robert and Cindy Silverman. Dr. Donald Rosenthal, thank you for your incredible care. Burial will be at the old Montrepose Cemetery, Benedictine Hospital side, in Kingston, NY on Wednesday, June 15 at 11 a.m. Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford is in charge of the arrangements. The music may have stopped but the melody will always be remembered.
