Eva Greenwood

Eva Greenwood, 88, of Jamaica Plain, MA, peacefully transitioned from life on February 13, 2019 at home. She was the widow of Fred H. Greenwood, to whom she was married 54 years. Born in Vienna, Austria, she was the only child of the late Martha and Max Pollenz. Eva was a survivor of the Holocaust-era and was evacuated from Vienna in March 1939 on the Kindertransport. She was eventually reunited with her parents. They settled in Queens, New York. Eva earned a BA from NYU. She met her future husband when they were camp counselors at Children’s Colony International Camp, a summer camp for Jewish refugees. Eva loved to travel the world with her husband and dear friends. A special trip to the Galapagos is where she encountered the Blue-footed Booby, who she delighted in imitating. At the 2017 Boston Women’s March, her first political demonstration, Eva was interviewed by the Jewish Journal. She told the reporter “It made me so happy just to be there. It was a whole new thing for me”. Eva was a kind, loyal and generous woman who loved classical music, gazing at the ocean, searching for seashells, and, most importantly, family, especially gatherings in her home. Eva leaves her three children and their spouses, Susan Greenwood and Arnie Lucinda Stewart of Jamaica Plain, MA, Jeffrey and Della Greenwood of Simsbury, CT and John and Karen Greenwood of Bellmore, NY; five grandchildren, Sarah Fleming of PA, Amanda Caroca of NC, Alyssa Berlavski of NY, Michael Greenwood of NY and Elijah Greenwood-Stewart, six great-grandchildren, and many loving relatives and friends of different generations. She also leaves her dearest friend, Lydia Saderman, who she met in 3rd grade and they have remained lifelong ‘sisters’.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday February 17, 2019 at 10 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery at 200 Whitman Avenue, West Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Jamaica Plain, MA home of Susan Greenwood and Arnie Stewart on Sunday February17th from 3-9pm. The family would like to thank Good Shepherd Community Care and First Light Homecare for their loving and devoted care extended to Eva.
