Faith (Appell) Fichman, 96 years of age, of Farmington, formerly of Simsbury, died Monday, July 25, 2011. She was the widow of Merrill S. Fichman. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Joseph) Appell. Faith was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She cherished the time she spent with her family and her love and joy for life was a cornerstone of their lives. As the youngest of five sisters, she was doted on in her youth and in turn doted on her own children. She and Merrill loved the beach, Jazz, travel and fine dining. Most of all, they enjoyed each other. In her later life she managed her son’s medical practice at 70 years of age. Both of her children were a source of pride for her. She passed on to them her values and zest for life. Her contagious smile and easy laugh will be missed by all who knew her. She was active in Hadassah and she was a founding member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford. She was a longtime volunteer at the Uconn Health Center and received numerous awards. She leaves her children, Dr. Richard A. Fichman and his wife Lynn of Farmington, and Patti-Ann Fichman of North Hollywood, CA; and her grandchildren, Ben J. Fichman and his wife Jennifer, Meryl A. Fichman and Todd M. Fichman. The family would like to thank the staff at Arden Court of Farmington for the kindness and respect that they lavished upon her. Because of their care for her, she enjoyed her life to the fullest. The family would also like to thank Pansy Hoo, her friend, and special angel whose devotion and kindness serves as an inspiration for all. Her friendship was a blessing to Faith in every way. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Silberman Chapel of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield.
