Florence “Flo” Weisman Shakun, 88, of West Hartford, wife of the late Aaron Shakun passed away on March 17, 2020. Born at the Bronx Hospital on June 30, 1931, she was the daughter of Jennie & Max Weisman.
Flo was a stay at home mom to her three boys until they were teenagers and then worked for many years at Annie Fisher School as a paraprofessional. When not working, Flo participated in various charitable organizations including B’nai B’rith where she was President and was also an active member of Beth El Temple for more than 50 years.
Holidays always meant the world to Flo as she would prepare lavish meals including her famous salad bar for the entire extended family and anyone who needed a place to go. Family was of the utmost importance to her and even with her busy schedule, she managed to travel extensively and make 19 Tallis bags for family members.
Flo was a fighter living with lymphoma for over 29 years with the help of Dr. Stephen Firshein. She is survived by her three sons, Harlan and his wife Mary Anne of Bloomfield, Marshall and his wife Laurie of West Hartford and Mitchell and his wife Beth of West Hartford. Flo also leaves behind nine grandchildren; Eric Shakun and his wife Sandra of Tenafly, NJ, Melissa Shakun and Lee Meltzer of New York City, Bryce Steadman and his wife Nicole of Seattle, WA, Kylie Freedlander and her husband Matt of Richmond, VA, Lisa Shakun of Windsor, Matthew Shakun of West Hartford, Jeremy Shakun of West Hartford, Max Shakun of Arlington, VA and Lily Shakun of West Hartford and three great-grandchildren, Misha, Ashton and Amelie Shakun of Tenafly, NJ. She is also survived by her brother Joel Weisman and his wife Judy; her brother-in-law Wallace Shakun and his wife Gloria of Indiana and by many doting nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sisters Beatrice and her husband Moe and Mildred Kurtz.
