HAROLD SANDLER, born in Hartford, CT August 22, 1925, son of the late Ben Sandler and Rachel Dubofsky Sandler passed away peacefully at Belair Manor in Newington after a long, courageous battle. He was 91 years young. He attended Buckley High School, graduated from Trinity College with a full academic scholarship and went on to earn a Masters degree in Business from the University of Hartford. Harold entered the Air Force when he was 17, and made it his career. He served in World War 2, the Korean War, and was awarded the Bronze Star while serving in Vietnam. He retired in 1969, after serving his beloved country for 27 years. Every Memorial Day, he could be seen placing American flags on the graves of soldiers in the cemetery till he was 90. He was a true patriot, loving his country to his last day. Forever the hard worker, he embarked on a second career with CIGNA Corporation. Harold worked closely with his son Keith as a producer with Prism Production Services, Inc. in Wallingford which he continued until he was 90. He served as Commander of the Jewish War Veterans, and President of the Beth Alom Cemetery. Harold loved his blue Mustang convertible, the UCONN Huskies, NY Giants, his many dogs & cats, and a great restaurant serving his favorite meal (lobster). Most of all he loved his family. It was a whirlwind 70 year marriage to Leona Norma Witkin of New Britain. Harold is survived by Leona and their 7 children, Ross & Pat Sandler, Marc & Donna Sandler, Keith & Patty Sandler, Robin & Lisa Sandler, Joy & Philip Allen, Bonnie & Ed Wojtowicz and Wendy Sanstrom, 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Harold was predeceased by his brother Philip, his sister June and his beloved granddaughter Jessie. Harold (Gru) was the life of every party and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The Sandler family would like to thank all of the staff at Belair for their kind and devoted care for Harold.the names to numerous to mention, but all appreciated. The family will receive visitors at 10:00AM with a service at 11AM on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford. Internment immediately following the service at Beth Alom Cemetery. Donations in Harold’s name will be welcomed by the CT Humane Society or Kenway’s Cause (www.kenwayscause.org)
