Helene P. Silvers, of Jupiter, FL and Avon, CT, died Wednesday, July 21, 2021. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, S. Harold Silvers, in 2006. Helene was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 3, 1934, daughter of the late Irving and Augusta Lasky. Helene graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in 1951 and New York University in 1955 with a degree in education. After raising her family, Helene became a highly dedicated teacher of special education in the New York City Public Schools, helping her students, many from underprivileged backgrounds, overcome significant challenges to reach their full potential. Growing up in the family that founded the renowned Lasky Motor Car Company in 1916, one of Brooklyn’s first Ford dealerships, Helene was always interested in the business world, current affairs, and “my Dodgers”. She was very funny, very insightful, a wonderful listener and provider of advice, a true friend, and an impeccable dresser. Helene’s greatest love was her family, who absolutely adored her. Helene is survived by her two sons and their families: Brett N. Silvers and his wife Nancy of West Hartford, their daughters Rebecca and Claudia, and Claudia’s fiance, Josh Katten; Bruce C. Silvers, Esq. and his wife Leslie of West Hartford, and their sons, Ian and Ryan; and Sol Kessler, Helene’s devoted companion. The family encourages memorial contributions to educational institutions and programs of one’s choice.
