Herman Dvorin

Herman Dvorin, 94, of Avon died Friday, July 25, 2008 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Bangor, ME, he was the son of the late Oscar and Martha (Strier) Dvorin. He graduated in 1936 from Bates College in ME. Herman served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1950 he founded Corbin Motor Sales in New Britain. He and his son Richard ran the business until 1988 when it was sold. He was the last surviving member of a poker club that he and five friends founded in 1954 in West Hartford. This club had since then met weekly with the addition of new members as needed. Herman was a member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford and he was an avid golfer and Red Sox baseball fan. He was predeceased by his first wife, Adele (Rome) Dvorin. He was the beloved husband for 47 years of Evelyn (Adler) Dvorin; devoted father of Richard A. Dvorin of Brooklyn, CT, Michael T. Dvorin and his wife Penelope of Cumberland, RI, and Lawrence A. Dvorin and his wife Rhonda of Avon; cherished grandfather of Maxwell, Rebecca, Frazer, Tamir, Dani, and Ari Dvorin; brother of Shirley Isaacson Simons of Auburn, ME. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul, Sonny, Bunny, and Meyer Bornstein, and his sister, Rose Bornstein. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 11:30 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Ilana Garber officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed Sunday following the funeral through Tuesday evening at his home, 6 Bridle Path, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301.
