Ilse Betty Linz Wischnia, 94, beloved wife of the late Herbert Wischnia passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter by her side on May 12, 2022 at Hoffman Summerwood, West Hartford, CT. She was a long time resident of Stamford, CT and Marco Island, FL moving to West Hartford, CT in 2014 to be closer to her family. Born in Rotenberg an der Fulda, Germany on July 29, 1927, she was predeceased by her parents Elise and Herman Linz and her brother Rudolph Linz. Ilse was a young girl when she fled Germany for England as part of the Kindertransport during the Holocaust. In England, she stayed in an orphanage before traveling alone to the United States. She was reunited with her family in Chicago, IL. In a delicatessen in Chicago, she met the love of her life, and she and Herb were married for 68 years, until his passing. Ilse started her own secretarial business in State College, PA, later moving to Stamford, CT. After their children were grown, Ilse and Herb founded and operated Sonitrol Security Systems of Worcester Massachusetts. Upon retirement, Ilse and Herb returned to Stamford, CT and wintered in Marco Island, FL. Ilse was a wonderful mother to Anne Wischnia O’Connell of West Simsbury and Robert (Anita Harbor) Wischnia of Austin, TX; loving grandmother to Elizabeth (Daniel) Cushman of West Hartford, Stephanie (Gregory) Wilcke of Christiansburg, VA, Abigail (Chiheb) Soumer of Los Angeles, CA and Beth Wischnia of San Francisco, CA; and doting great-grandmother to Cameron and Benjamin Cushman. She also leaves her sister in law, Carolyn Linz Kaplan of Sarasota, FL, and nieces and nephew, including Barbara Henry of Schaumburg, IL. A heartfelt appreciation and special thank you to Ilse’s caregiver for seven years, Kathleen Lewis. A graveside service will be held today at the cemetery of Congregation Beth Israel, 51 Jackson Street ext, Avon, CT at 10:30 am. Arrangements will be handled by Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT https://weinsteinmortuary.com/ and service will be conducted by Rabbi Michael Pincus.
