Isabel Dobkin, 97, passed away on June 17, 2023 at her home on Mountain Road in West Hartford from complications following a stroke.
Born on October 23, 1925 in London, England, Isabel was the youngest of 6 children born to Maurice and Esther (Butnick) Jacobs.
Isabel grew up in Ealing, London and graduated from Pitman Business College in London. In 1947 she traveled to Stuttgart, Germany to work for Vaad Hatzalah (Committee for Rescuing), aiding Jewish refugees with emigration from war torn Europe to the United States.
It was in Stuttgart that Isabel met her late husband Robert (Bob) Dobkin. They emigrated to the United States in 1950, eventually settling in Connecticut. In the early 1970’s, Isabel began what would become an illustrious career as a residential real estate broker.
Isabel was a life long athlete, playing tennis, table tennis, golf, power walking, whose motto was “a day without exercise is like a day without sunshine.” She was also an avid bridge player. Isabel will be remembered for her British wit which delighted everyone.
Isabel leaves two daughters: Penelope Dobkin of Brookline, MA and Bonnie Dobkin, MD and her husband Peter Sonntag of West Hartford, and a beloved grandson, Adam Sonntag.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford on Thursday June 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. A memorial period will be observed at Isabel’s home through Friday.
