James (Emanuel) Ettinger

ETTINGER, James Emanuel Ettinger, 86 years of age, of West Hartford died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Mollie (Kupersmith) Ettinger. Born in Wilkensburg, PA, he was the son of the late Leo and Clara (Freydberg) Ettinger. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of World War II surviving the Battle of Iwo Jima. James graduated from Union College in Schenectady, NY and went on to have a successful career as an electrical engineer with Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool in West Hartford. He was a member of the Emanuel Synagogue of West Hartford, the West Hartford Regents, and the Knights of Pythias. He was also a member of the US Marine Corps Association and the Iwo Jima Survivors Association. He was the loving father of Jodi Levy and her husband Charles of Paramus, NJ, Dr. Jeffrey Ettinger and his wife Angela of San Jose, CA, and Robert Ettinger of West Hartford; cherished grandfather of Alana and Brian Levy, and Matthew and Samantha Ettinger; beloved brother-in-law of Edith Baskin of Bloomfield; and uncle to Scott, Joey and Glenn. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Piaterer Verein Society Cemetery, Jordan Lane Ext., Wethersfield. A memorial period will be observed at his home Sunday following the funeral through Monday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Iwo Jima Memorial Historic Foundation, P. O. Box 310516, Newington 06131.
