James Purcell

Dr. James Purcell of Hartford passed away at home on Friday, August 25, 2023. Dr. Purcell was born in Queens New York on November 20, 1937 to Joseph and Sylvia Epstein Purcell. He grew up in Forest Hills.

Dr. Purcell graduated from Cornell University and SUNY Downstate Medical Center: He was board certified in cardiology and internal medicine and served in the United States Airforce.

Moving to Hartford in 1969, Dr. Purcell established a cardiology practice followed by employment by the State of Connecticut. He retired early due to health concerns.

He was predeceased by his parents: He leaves his cousin, Brenda Oestreich of Scarsdale, New York and several dear friends; Dr. Ray McGivney, Dr. Padar, Paul Kalos, Elizabeth Perrin and his trusted aid Emmanuel Johnson.

Rabbi Michael Pincus will officiate at a graveside service at The Emmanuel Cemetery 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield at 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023
