Jean (Shuch) Federman

Jean Shuch Federman passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 surrounded by her immediate family and loved ones. She was 79 years old. Jean was the picture of strength for her entire life, modeling courage, determination and bravery for all those who were fortunate enough to be part of her circle. Her love for David, her husband of 57 years, was rivalled only by her love for her children, grandchildren, nieces and siblings. Jean is survived by her son, Eric Federman, his wife, Amy and their two sons, Jacob and Samuel; her son, Brian Federman and his daughter, Michalina; her niece, Kimberly DiBella, her husband, Jason and their son Ben; her niece, Mindy Jason and her husband, Jeremy; her brother, Alan Shuch, his wife, Leslie Himmel, and his daughters, Kathleen and Jennifer Shuch; her sister, Sharon Asip, and her children, Milky and Emily Asip; her sister-in law, Karen Blinderman and her husband Lawrence; and her niece, Stacey Fonseca, her husband David, and their daughter, Jocelyn. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Morris and Betty Shuch; her brother, Frank Shuch; and her husband, David Federman. Born in a displaced persons camp in Lodz, Poland, in 1945, she graduated from Weaver High before going to Boston University and University of Hartford, eventually obtaining both her Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Education. Upon finishing, Jean became a French teacher until settling in as the primary caretaker for her sons. She also spent many years looking after both of her parents. Together with her late husband and their many beloved friends, she lived a life committed to family and the Greater Hartford Jewish community, including serving as Co-Chairwoman of the Women’s Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and Chair for the Jewish Film Festival at the Mandell Jewish Community Center. Jeanie, as she was known, was a wonderful friend to many, always eager to help in ways only she could. Everyone knew: if you need something, call Jeanie. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to Jola Przeplata for her years of service and devotion as Jean’s caretaker. The bond they formed was incredibly special. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Weinstein Mortuary at 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 11am. Interment will follow at the United Synagogues of Greater Hartford Memorial Park at 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT. Shiva will be observed at the Mandell Jewish Community Center at 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mandell Jewish Community Center Jean and David Federman Fund.
