Jeffrey (I.) Bergen

Jeffrey I. Bergen, 72 years of age, of Bloomfield, CT, formerly of West Hartford, died Friday, March 3, 2017. He was the husband of the late Holly (Talan) Bergen. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Herman S. and Bertha (Dolgoruck) Bergen. He was the son-in-law of the late Hyman and Terry Talan. Jeffrey worked for his entire life in the automotive and commercial tire industry, including many years as President of The Tyre Man. He was an active member of the Jewish community and volunteered for many organizations including serving as Chairperson for over fifteen years of the Association of Jewish Cemeteries of Greater Hartford and Chairperson of the Greater Hartford Israel 40th celebration. In 1998 he was named a lifetime director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and in 2002 received their President’s award for his 30 plus years of service. He leaves his sons, Jon R. Bergen and his wife Elizabeth of New York, NY, and Peter T. Bergen of Lafayette Hill, PA; and his two grandsons, Alex and Jack Bergen. He also leaves behind his partner Karen Campagna and her extended family who welcomed him warmly, including her grandchildren who loved their “Jeffee” very much. He will be remembered as a caring individual who was equally quick with a joke or an offer to help, as someone who loved the pool, the beach, being outside and traveling. Jeff was a wine connoisseur and a lover of classical music. Above all else, he will be remembered as a true friend and devoted family man.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 on Monday, March 6, 2017 in the Sanctuary of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Following the interment the family will receive relatives and friends at Congregation Beth Israel between 2:00 - 6:00.
