Joan Sherrow Stein of South Windsor, CT, died Friday (October 21st), surrounded by her family. She was a fierce competitor of both Mahjong and Scrabble, and could beat any laundry stain into submission. She was an expert domestic engineer, and when her children were older, her strong work ethic and determination ensured that she met with great success when she started her own business as an independent manufacturer’s representative. Born in NY, she moved to Hartford when she was 5, and graduated from Weaver High School. She loved ice-cream, Beach Park, theater, her friends, and her next big adventure. She hated sand in the house and dishes in the sink. She retired to Aventura Florida, with her husband, Melvin, where an active social life meant Joan added to her wonderful group of friends, many of whom will miss her fun loving ways and adventurous spirit. Joan leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years; her son Steven Stein,and wife Ann, daughter Sheryl Stein, and husband Rob Mervis, son Jay Stein, and wife Valeri French, and daughter Teri Beckoff and husband Jay; her grandchildren David, Daniel, Jordan, Abbie and Matthew; her sisters Florence Graff and husband Malcolm, and Rochelle Fierston and husband David, and is predeceased by her brother Monroe Sherrow who is mourned by his wife Olivia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Wednesday, October 26th, 2016 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT with Rabbi Jeffery Glickman officiating. Interment will follow at the Emanuel Cemetery, 1360 Berlin Turnpike (corner Jordan Lane and The Berlin Turnpike), Wethersfield, CT Calling hours will follow, from 1:30 to 3:30, at Temple Beth Hillel, 20 Baker Lane, South Windsor Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice .
