Joanne (Koplowitz) Bortman

d. September 11, 2024

Joan L Bortman (aka Noni), 82, of West Hartford CT and Niantic CT, peacefully passed away at home on September 11th with her cherished family by her side. Joan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and best friend to so many special people. She was predeceased by her late husband, Gerard Bortman, her parents Sidney & Ruth Koplowitz, and her son, Dr. Scott Bortman. Joan was a lifelong resident of West Hartford. She enjoyed a long career at CIGNA where she made many dear friends. She was never willing to leave the area due to her extremely close ties with her daughter, Charna Kaufman (& John Kaufman), daughter in law, Elaine Bortman and the light of her eyes grandchildren, Jeffrey & Rachel Bortman and Caroline, Isabel & Sophia Kaufman. Joan was fortunate enough to have best friend and partner, Barry Snyder in her life for the past 17 wonderful years. It would be an understatement to say Joan’s family was everything to her. She was always the life of the party, never afraid to speak her mind, loved to over shop, travel and dress to the nines. In the summer, you could find Joan at Crescent Beach with her family enjoying the sun and surf and a good cookout too! Joan loved a good game of maj jong or canasta with lifelong friends and cousins, but absolutely hated to lose! The world was a better place because of Noni and she will be dearly missed by many. Funeral services will take place Friday, September 13 at Weinstein Mortuary on 640 Farmington Ave West Hartford at 10:30AM. Immediately following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Charna & John Kaufman 31 Hatheway Drive West Hartford, CT. Shiva will also be observed Saturday from 7-9PM and Sunday from 3-7:30pm at the Kaufman’s. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make contributions in Joan’s memory to Beth El Temple, West Hartford, American Lung Association, or a charity of your choice.
