Joyce (Zetoff) Rosenstein

d. February 26, 2024

Joyce Z. Rosenstein, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully with her loved ones surrounding her, after a courageous battle with multiple health issues on February 26, 2024. Joyce was born on January 3, 1935, in Hartford, CT to the late Joseph and Fannie (Tabansky) Zetoff and was the beloved wife of 70 years to Jerry Rosenstein who was her childhood sweetheart.

She lived in the Greater Hartford area her whole life, growing up in Hartford’s north end on Nelson Street, graduating from Vine Street School, Northeast Jr. High and the old Weaver High School, making a life with Jerry in Hartford, Bloomfield, and lastly West Hartford, her home for the past 57 years. She was a longtime member of the former Beth Hillel Synagogue congregation.

Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a consummate homemaker and wiz in the kitchen, especially when preparing all the traditional Jewish specialties, including her famous kreplach, holishkes, chopped liver, and of course gallons of ‘Jewish penicillin’ over the decades of Jewish holiday meals she meticulously prepared. And while old Jewish neighborhoods and shtetls had the obligatory matchmaker; Joyce was the “go-to” therapist for her large but intimate circle of relatives and friends for all sorts of advice. She was a great listener and gave good counsel – solving easy and not so easy issues with her straightforward, loving approach. She loved reading novels, attending all her grandchildren’s events from sports to dance recitals, and never missed an opportunity to show us she could tap dance.

Joyce is survived by her husband Jerry; her children Jeffrey Rosenstein, Michael & Ilena (Solomon) Rosenstein, Steven & Jae (Taylor) Rosenstein, and Susan Rosenstein; grandchildren: Andrew Rosenstein and wife Griffin Udelson, Alyssa Rosenstein, Joe and Anneliese (Janssen) Rosenstein, Arynn (Rosenstein) Kelly; Lily Rosenstein and Zak Rosenstein; her great, grandchildren, Ben and Charlotte; her brother Richard & the late Rosalie (Shapiro) Zetoff, and Cousin Gail (Rosenberg) Powell, who lived with Joyce’s family as an infant.
