Laura (Edelstein) Kinyon

d. May 23, 2021

Yet another bright light has left us. Laura R. Kinyon, 64, passed away on May 23,2021 after a long assault of cancer. Laura is survived by her husband Rick, her only child Asher, her brother Charles (Tuck) Edelstein, sister-in-law Joyce Lawler and nephew Miles Edelstein. She was predeceased by her parents Al and Ruth Edelstein and brother, Dick Edelstein. Importantly, Laura also left behind her many close friends from childhood and from her later years in St. Louis, New York, Avon/West Hartford area, Sarasota, Pittsburgh, Edinburgh, and Jerusalem…. so many friends who brought her joy and connection. Born in Harrison, New York in 1957, Laura’s childhood centered around her friends, her attachment to music and dance, and learning from her parents. In her youth, Laura was devoted to dance and attended formal training and NYC classes. Her devotion to dance continued into adulthood through her commitment to Jacob’s Pillow Dance Center in the Berkshires. Since childhood, Laura wanted to know the world and lived in Paris and London, using this time to learn French and to travel Europe. Later she went on to graduate from Washington University with double majors in Social Work and Guidance Counseling. Laura’s focus on serving evolved into a career in the corporate world providing counseling assistance to employees and consultation to management within the Fortune 500 sector. But her fondest and most skillful job was being a mother to Asher and creating a home for her family. Laura adapted these skills to later provide teaching and guidance by providing Mother Circles, the focus of which assisted non-Jewish mothers, married to Jewish spouses, to raise their children to know and appreciate their Jewish heritage. This was the passion of her adulthood she most cherished affecting so many families. Laura was so proud of being Jewish. The joy of the weekly and annual rituals structured her weekly schedule. She placed at the top of her list creating a home and the passing on of Jewish holiday rituals and values to Asher. Laura will be remembered as being strongly devoted to her friends….the organizer of events and meetings. She always considered herself a New Yorker…opinionated, energetic, quick-witted, always assertive, and willing to try anything once. She loved chocolate, opera arias, romantic comedies, musicals, great food, travel, walks, and sitting quietly on the beach. Laura was also very sentimental, continually reviewing happy memories with loved ones. She will be reminding us of her humor and good cheer as we will hear her happy voice in our memory. Laura loved life! We will miss her so.
