Lawrence (Larry) Levy, 73, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2019 surrounded by family. He was born and raised in New York City, the only child of Ruth (Lemke) and Kurt Levy, and resided in West Hartford for 47 years. Larry was a proud graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, City College of NY where he earned a Bachelors and Masters of Mechanical Engineering, and earned an MBA in finance at UCONN. In his career as an engineer, Larry worked for Con Edison and Northeast Utilities, and notably testified on nuclear decommissioning for state and federal regulators. He was a tribal leader for two YMCA Indian Guide groups, coached in the West Hartford Youth Basketball League for ten years, and mentored West Hartford children of single parents. He was an active member of Toastmasters International for 39 years, achieving rank of Able Toastmaster. He taught public speaking classes for West Hartford Continuing Education. Hobbies included gardening, photography, tennis, basketball, and playing bridge. He was an avid bridge player, achieving the rank of National Life Master. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the Hartford Bridge Club, often playing at the club with his wife as his partner. Larry was president of the Northeast Utilities Retirement Organization for the past 11 years. He had a zest for life, truly loved playing tennis and basketball with his two sons and friends, spending lots of time with his grandchildren and enjoying global adventures with his wife. He will be greatly missed, but lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta, to whom he was married for 50 wonderful years; devoted children: son Douglas, and son and daughter-in-law Todd and Amanda; four cherished grandchildren: Julie, Ali, Ryder and Olive.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Burial will be at Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery in East Granby. Calling hours will be at his home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00-9:00 pm with Minyan at 6:30 both nights. Donations in his memory may be made to the Emanuel Synagogue or to Dana Farber Cancer Research.

Calling hours will be at his home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00-9:00 pm with Minyan at 6:30 both nights.
