Leo M. Kaplan of West Hartford passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 93. Leo was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on January 31, 1927. Son of the late Barnett and Ada (Schayer) Kaplan, Leo grew up in Elmira, NY. before attending Cornell University. After his freshman year at Cornell, he volunteered for the military and served in the Army of Occupation in Japan. After his service, he resumed his studies and graduated from Cornell University with an Engineering degree. His passion for aviation led him on a long career in the field, culminating with over 25 years of service at Pratt & Whitney, where he worked on many projects related to airplane engines. Leo had many hobbies and interests. He was an avid reader who loved science fiction and thriller novels. He enjoyed traveling the world, building model airplanes, listening to classical music and opera, attending concerts and Broadway shows and spending time with his family. He is survived by his long loving wife Bilha Kaplan and children Adena Kaplan and Brian Kaplan. Graveside services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, March 3rd at Beth El Cemetery, 51 Jackson St. Avon, Ct. Following services, family and friends are invited back to the Temple for a small reception at 2626 Albany Ave, West Hartford.
