Leonard Glazier

d. January 1, 1970

Leonard Glazier, 88, of West Hartford, CT passed away on December 26, 2017. Len was born August 1, 1929 and graduated from Weaver High School in Hartford, CT and Bentley College in Waltham, MA. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Japan and Korea. Upon his return from military service, he met the love of his life, Joan Leopold Glazier, to whom he was married for 60 years. Throughout their lives together, Len and Joan shared a passion for music, tennis, and travel. Len was active in civic life and ran for Hartford Comptroller in 1958. The majority of his professional career was spent working alongside his father-in-law, Kurt Leopold, as the comptroller of the Union Meat Company.
Following his retirement, Len remained active in the Emanuel Synagogue and West Hartford Regents. He was always a loving, devoted, and loyal husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and cousin. Len’s favorite job upon retirement was that of “grandpa”. Len was devoted to his late wife through her final days, insisting on being her caretaker and comforter in their home until her passing.
Always independent, Len suffered a cardiac event in July 2017 while mowing his own lawn. His survival and recovery, including exercising three times a week, were remarkable and a testament to his strength and loving community. He is already missed greatly.
Leonard is predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, and sister Muriel Goldberg. He is survived by his son Michael Glazier, daughter-in-law Jody Brown, daughter Bonnie Glazier, and grandchildren Tracy Glazier, Amy Glazier, Tyler Debussey, Kyle Debussey, and Megan Debussey. Additionally, he is survived by this brother Phillip Glazier and sister-in-law Ruth Glazier.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Emanuel Synagogue Music Fund. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 29 at the Emanuel Cemetery located at 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT. Following the funeral, calling hours will be observed at The Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT on Friday afternoon with a Minyan at 4:15 PM and on Saturday evening at the family home with a Minyan at 5:45 PM.
